Who run the world?
Queen B said it, so it has to be true, right?
Jokes aside, girls or more accurately women, are proving themselves to be a force to be reckoned with in the travel world. This post by the Gutsy Traveler points out how in charge women really are in the travel industry. From making 80% of travel related planning decisions, to making up the majority of tour groups. What’s even more interesting? Today’s average traveller isn’t a young male, but a 47 year old female. HA! Take that boys.
Yet despite the fact that women are clearly contenders in travel, we still face a series of drawbacks. Most of which are somehow related to fear. Fear of being alone as a woman in a foreign country. Fear of being sexually assaulted or harassed. Fear of being mistreated based on nationality or even body image. And so on. We are constantly warned, cautioned, and even told we shouldn’t visit certain places. When we do, we are given restrictive advice. All to better our ‘safety’. But, in reality, all these warnings and tips only circle back to generate the main problem: fear.
In fairness, its probably thanks to the fear of travel that I have so many (amazing) readers. Like almost every other solo female travel blogger, I love to share my own experiences to help alleviate the fear of travelling as a solo woman. I’ve answered countless messages and emails from readers looking for advice: How do I stay safe? Where is safe? What do I tell my friends and family? What’s your best advice? Is it dangerous?
As much as I love helping and encouraging these women to get out there and explore the world, I can’t help but be frustrated that I have to. That the media and internet are so full of horrible, violent stories (that are NOT the norm), drives me crazy. But as hard as I try, I can’t alleviate these stereotypes by myself. Which is why I’m super stoked to announced that I have partnered up with the Wanderful team and their launch of the first ever homesharing network for women.
What is it? Think of being a Wanderful Global Member as being part of the ultimate girls club. A world-wide group of like-minded women all pursuing their passion for travel, and willing to help you pursue yours. It’s a way to meet fellow travel addicts, to make friends around the world. It’s the little piece of mind you need, knowing that no matter where you go you have a network of strong, adventurous women supporting you.
So what does being a Wanderful Global Member get you?
